Mission and Goals

Cascadian Edible Landscapes assists individuals, communities, governments, and developers transform underutilized private and public spaces into spaces for food production and community growth. Currently, CEL is a social entrepreneurial business seeking to become a community-supported organization, that builds relationships across socio-economic lines, in order to connect people to their food and power.

In the name of Food Justice and Security, our GOALS are as follows:

1. Create community-scale edible landscapes, assisting with garden plans and construction. We recognize barriers to gardening and healthy eating habits–whether it is a lack of knowledge or resources–and empower people to surmount them.

2. Promote a vision of social justice and healthy food systems, recognizing these are intertwined. We exchange services (charge) at sliding-scale rates in order to serve people from all economic situations. We ask people with resources to invest in their communities. We do not provide anything for free, thus bringing value to our work.

3. Recognizing that establishing gardens is only the first step, we educate gardeners, connect them with mentors, and network them into nodes so they can support each other. After teaching the very important skills of growing food, CEL will be able to hire those people who relearn it as we grow.

4. Provide consultation services and advocate to developers and government. We seek to lead the field in urban agriculture and institutionalize local food production networks in city and neighborhood plans.
